Dongdaemun Design Plaza & Park

Dongdaemun is Korea's Treasure No.1. And Dongdaemun stadium was located nearby Dongdaemun the Japanese occupation period but gradually Dongdaemun stadium is less well known for the two stadiums that are located there, and more famous for the giant market that surrounds them. The stadium were used parking space or small market it doesn't have any more value on this site. The goverment decided to redevelop this two stadiums site.
The site designed by Zaha Hadid. She says " A fundamental aim of the scheme is to bring delight and inspiration to the people of Seoul by establishing a cultural hub in the centre of one the busiest and most historic districts of the city"



The form of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza and Park revolves around the ancient city wall, which forms the central element of the composition, creating a continuous landscape that physically links the park and plaza together. And new park creates a place for leisure, relaxation, and refuge. The park reinterprets elements of traditional Korean garden design: reflecting pools, lotus ponds, pebble beds and bamboo groves, with no single feature dominating the perspective.
